It was DarkZero Esports who proved to be quite the surprise package at Six Charlotte Major 2022, as they marched all the way to the final where they ran out 3-2 winners over Astralis to pick up the grand prize. However, they’ll be no such chance of a repeat performance from DarkZero on this occasion after they failed to qualify for this tournament as XSET just pipped them to securing the last ticket on the plane to Berlin from North American League 2022 Stage 2.

The same cannot be said for their opponents in the Six Charlotte Major 2022, however, as Astralis were top dogs in North American League 2022 Stage 2, finishing just ahead of Soniqs. It’s also worth noting that Seth “Callout” Mik’s men also finished top of the North American League by this season’s first major in Charlotte, so they’ll be doubly keen to ensure that they go one better this time around.

That being said, they’ll come up against some stiff competition from all corners of the globe in the race for silverware, such as Thailand’s Elevate with whom they’ll lock horns with in Group D. Elevate have been in impressive form this year, taking the grand prize in 5 of the 8 tournaments which they’ve competed in and will also be champing at the bit to make their presence felt here, having cruelly missed out on this year’s first major due to visa issues.

As for elsewhere in the Asian/Pacific region, Damwon Gaming and Sandbox Gaming will also be keen to show what they’re capable of, whereas FaZe Clan probably represent South America’s best chance of success here.

One potential set of dark horses to look out for could be new kids on the block, Wolves Esports after they finished top of the pile in Stage 2 of the European League 2022 and 6 French League Season 4. That being said, it remains to be seen whether these two tournaments were adequate preparation for mixing it with the big boys from around the world on the global stage.

Whatever happens, we’re in for a treat here.

The European Championships is a multi-sport event with a combination of 9 different sports championships all under one roof, creating one large event all held across the same city. This year in Munich will be only the second edition. The sports that are included in the programme are Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Canoe Sprint, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing, Sport Climbing, Table Tennis, and Triathlon.

4700 athletes will be competing for the 177 European titles up for grabs. Lots of big names are set to take to the stage in Munich across all sports, leaving the spectators spoilt for choice. In these names you can find a heap of 2020 Olympic gold medallists such as the pole vaulter Armand Duplantis representing Sweden. There is also the long jump legend Malaika Mihambo who will be competing in front of a home crowd

In the women’s climbing, the world superstar Janja Garnbret is favourite to take the gold for Slovenia after dominating the sport for years and taking the first ever Olympic gold medal given for Women’s Sports climbing. A familiar face is also set to appear in the form of Tom Pidcock who is fresh from winning a stage of the Tour de France, has he recovered in time to claim the Mountain Bike Cross country gold for Great Britain and add to his collection?

There will be something for everyone in this melting pot of European champions so make sure you tune in and don’t miss the excitement!
