Stratis bets on a knockout

Cryptocurrency projects are starting to become more active in advertising themselves by signing sponsorships deals with various athletes and Stratis has no intention of losing ground to their competitors in this regard.

In the last few days, Stratis announced on their official Twitter account that they are to sponsor the experienced British boxer, James DeGale, who is to fight Chris Eubank Jr. this coming Saturday. The winner of this bout will be crowned IBO Super-Middleweight champion.

What is Stratis?

Stratis is a blockchain project, which has created a BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) platform that allows users to create their own decentralized apps (Dapps) on private blockchains and use Stratis’ internal cryptocurrency which is known as STRAT.  As of today, STRAT is ranked 53rd in Coinmarketcap’s “Top 100 Cryptocurrencies” list and one STRAT coin is worth roughly US$0.9.

More on the Fight

The boxing match that Stratis is to sponsor will take place on February 23rd at the “02 Arena” in London, which traditionally hosts Britain’s most high-profile cultural and sporting events.

In addition to being a title bout, this match will also be of keen interest to those following the career of Eubank Jr., the son of the legendary English boxer, Chris Eubank. The 29-year-old has stated that he is currently finding it very difficult to cope with the added psychological pressure of living up to the high expectations placed on him by both boxing fans and sports experts, who are constantly drawing comparisons between his and his father’s careers. Meanwhile, Chris Eubank Sr. has gone on record as saying that he is more worried than anyone about the outcome of this fight.

Chris Eubank Jr. is 29 years old and began his boxing career in 2011. In this time, he has contested 29 fights, winning 21 of them by knockout and has only suffered 2 defeats. Eubank was also the last boxer to hold the IBO Super-Middleweight title, which he lost after a defeat to George Groves as the result of a shoulder injury he received in the 12th round. Interestingly, Groves was stripped of this title after the fight as he could not come to agreement with IBO president Ed Levine about the payment of sanctions fees in time. As a result of this, the IBO Super-Middleweight title is currently vacant.

His opponent, the 33-year-old James DeGale, contested his first professional bout in 2009. Prior to this, he had fought in 95 amateur matches and won gold in middleweight boxing at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. DeGale has contested a total of 28 professional fights, winning 25 of them, losing 2 of them and recording 1 draw. The Brit was also the IBF Super-Middleweight champion until April 2018, but he relinquished his title after refusing to fight the then interim IBF champion, Jose Uzcategui, whom the IBF has ordered him to fight.

1xBit cannot pick a clear favourite for this upcoming clash, although we would say that Eubank Jr. is a slight favourite (1.77 vs 2.275). Despite this, if this bout is to be won on a points decision, it’s more likely that DeGale will win (2.7 vs 3.4). In any event, the possibility of this fight finishing in the opening few rounds is very low. The odds on this bout finishing before the 7th round are 14.5.
