Even though the COVID-19 pandemic remains a factor, sports competitions across the world are getting in full swing. Football fans are now very hungry for action and to their delight, it wasn’t brought to a halt with the commencement of the winter break in most European leagues but went southward to the central part of the African continent where beautiful Cameroon lies. In the period between January 9 and February 6, this country is hosting the 2021 TotalEnegries Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a thrilling tournament that offers tons of football action on which you can bet in the corresponding section of the sportsbook.

Prior to the start of the tournament, the organizers came out with the announcement that the Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange Binance, which boasts the largest trading volume among centralized platforms, became an official sponsor and an exclusive blockchain partner of the football tournament that is broadcasted across 160 countries and viewed by approximately 300 million fans.

Binance will push the adoption of crypto across the continent

Veron Mosengo-Omba, the General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), said that this football organization had welcomed Binance with open arms and noted the CAF’s readiness to embrace blockchain technology that has the potential to “take African football to the next level.” As part of the deal, CAF introduced three promos, namely the Binance Assist of the Day/Assist of the Week/Assist of the Tournament, which are being promoted across the organization's social media outlets and ad boards on the stadiums.

Yi He, who is one of the founders and the current CMO of Binance, expressed his belief that Africans will play a key role in the future of the blockchain industry., whereas Binance will make every effort to raise awareness about crypto and this exchange platform. Emmanuel Babalola, the chief of Binance in Africa, added that the partnership with CAF helps the exchange in realizing the goal of taking “crypto mainstream across the continent.”

An exciting tournament overshadowed by a tragedy

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations just saw the finalization of the Round of 16 phase, upon which eight teams have qualified for the quarter-final that will take place on January 29 and January 30, with Egypt - Morocco and Gambia - Cameroon being the most interesting pairs which might be worth betting on.

Unfortunately, this magnificent tournament was overshadowed by the death of eight people in a stampede outside the Olembe stadium in Yaounde, the capital city of the host nation. CAF launched a thorough investigation of this incident and ordered a minute of silence to be observed during all remaining matches.
