5 performers who are favourites to win Eurovision 2021

Eurovision is just around the corner. The crazy costumes are made, the dance routines are rehearsed, and the vocals are polished. Although the competition will look slightly different this year, Eurovision fans are still waiting with bated breath to see the smorgasbord of performances on offer this year.

Despite the sometimes silly and light-hearted reputation Eurovision has, we can’t forget that it’s a competition where artists prepare for months to take the crown. So as the contest heats up, let’s take a look at 5 acts in prime position to claim the top spot this year.

Table of contents:

1) France: Barbara Pravi

2) Malta: Destiny

3) Switzerland: Gjon's Tears

4) Italy: Måneskin

5) Iceland: Daði og Gagnamagnið

France: Barbara Pravi

As one of the big five, Barbara is guaranteed a place in the final to perform her haunting and passionate ballad ‘Voilà’. It has been over four decades since one of France’s acts has won the competition, but the bookmakers believe that ‘Voilà’ finally has that ‘je ne sais quoi’ to reunite France with the trophy. With a performance that harks back to classic French musical roots, will we also be transported back to France’s Eurovision glory days?

Malta: Destiny

The next contender couldn’t be more different from France’s slow ballad. This year Malta is hoping to go all the way with the punchy pop song ‘Je Me Casse’. Destiny’s message of female empowerment, powerful vocals over an American pop style beat conjures up an image of what would happen if Ariana Grande and Lizzo came together to enter Eurovision. Could this be a winning formula? It is down to ‘Destiny’ now and if she gives a performance of a lifetime, this on trend song could blow audiences away.

Switzerland: Gjon's Tears

The French titles continue with Switzerland’s entry of ‘Tout l’Univers’. It is performed by Gjon’s Tears, who should be well prepped for a competition like this as he has already competed in massive singing competition shows across Albania, Germany and France, reaching at least the semi finals in all of them. This impressive past experience, coupled with Gjon’s Tears’ hordes of European fans, has led experts to predict that Switzerland could be crying tears of joy on the night.

Italy: Måneskin

Get ready to unleash your inner headbanger as the musical diversity of our list continues to grow with the rock band Måneskin, who are representing Italy this year. In the past 10 years Italy has been inching ever closer to claiming victory in this competition with half of their entries finishing in the top 5, and the bookmakers are expecting their success to continue with this year’s song ‘Zitti E Buoni’. Eurovision loves performers who bring something different to the table, and this song definitely provides a healthy slice of variety.

Iceland: Daði og Gagnamagnið

The best word to describe this final favourite is FUN! Daði og Gagnamagnið already gained a whole host of fans when their song from last year’s cancelled competition went viral across social media platforms. This popularity stemmed from a catchy chorus paired with a simplistic, yet somehow comedic dance routine which fans at home could copy. This year Daði og Gagnamagnið have returned with the same magic combination with their song ‘10 years’. The group may be happy with 10 years but will be hoping for a full twelve points this Eurovision.
