“Let’s move out!” 5 crazy CS:GO records
Chances are that if you love nothing more than slaying the virtual enemy at the gates, then you’re no stranger to the gunslinging world of Counter-Strike.
Since starting life as an mod for Half Life way back in 1999, Valve’s premier FPS franchise has become an absolute gaming behemoth, spawning 4 sequels (with another scheduled for release later this year), as well as one of the most memed games in history, and giving birth to one of the most watched esports disciplines on the planet in the 24 years which have elapsed since then.
With the highly-anticipated Blast.TV Paris Major 2023 bearing down on us like an enemy fighter in the pistol round, we thought there’s no time like the present to look at 5 CS:GO records.
Contents:
- Most Total Kills: Janusz 'Snax' Pogorzelski
- Highest average rating: Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut
- Most MVPs: Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev
- Highest headshot percentage: Adil ‘ScreaM’ Benrlitom
- Longest game: XENEX vs. exceL
1. Most Total Kills: Janusz 'Snax' Pogorzelski
Whilst billions of bullets have been fired in competitive CS:GO matches down the years, nobody has proven to be as lethal a marksman as seasoned veteran, Janusz 'Snax' Pogorzelski.
A seasoned veteran of the CS:GO scene, who’s been around since 2010, the Pole is most widely known for being a vital part of Virtus.Pro’s Major winning squad between 2014-8 and has managed to amass a mind boggling 41,619 total kills in his 13 years in this discipline.
However, he faces stiff competition to hold onto his record as fnatic’s Jesper 'JW' Wecksell is hot on his heels with 41,590 total kills to his name at the time of writing.
Only time will tell if he’s got what it takes to become top dog!
2. Highest average rating: Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut
We shift our attention to one of the next generation of CS:GO stars, Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut.
Although Team Vitality have had their fair share of ups and downs over the past few years, ZywOo has already become one of the best CS:GO players of all time with an average rating of 1.27 over more than 1,100 maps.
What’s more, he’s still only 22 years old, which means there should be plenty more to come from him in the future.
3. Most MVPs: Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev
When it comes to players staking their claim to be the king of the MVP mountain, one name stands tall above the rest - Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev.
Since picking up his first MVP medal back in 2016, s1mple has since become a force to be reckoned with, picking up a staggering 21 MVP medals in 7 years, as well as a Major, an Intel Grand Slam trophy and numerous S-tier events with NAVI.
What’s more, s1mple also holds the record for most MVP medals in a year (8 in 2018) and has been crowned best CS:GO player no fewer than 3 times (2018, 2021, 2022), finishing as runner-up for best player twice (2019, 2020).
4. Highest headshot percentage: Adil ‘ScreaM’ Benrlitom
When it comes to those lethal “one-taps”, Adil ‘ScreaM’ Benrlitom reigns supreme in the CS:GO world.
Although his overall tactical sense of the game isn’t exactly his strongest suit, Scream is the master of the headshot with no fewer than 68.1% of his 27,481 total kills coming via this method down the years.
What’s more, his status as the headshot king is also further underlined by the fact he’s scored the highest number of headshots per player (18,724) as well as the highest average number of headshots per round (0.5).
That being said, his reign at the top is currently under threat as NAVI’s Valeriy 'b1t' Vakhovskiy is currently averaging 67.1% headshot kills and on current form, he most certainly has what it takes to snatch ScreaM’s title away from him.
5. Longest game: XENEX vs. exceL
Whilst the race to 16 points is normally enough to separate two rivals, the CS:GO world is no stranger to tense, drawn-out affairs that require more than the normal 30 rounds to separate two rivals.
The longest “feat of endurance” which the world of CS:GO has served up for us was an ESL UK Premiership match between XENEX and excel from back in 2015, which required no fewer than 44 overtimes and 58 extra rounds to determine a winner.
Incidentally, the record for the longest match at Major level was set at ESL Pro League Season 15, where NAVI required 71 rounds to defeat AGO Gaming.
